Delete your data on Wildbirds
How to remove specific content or request deletion of personal data without closing your account.
You can delete many types of data on Wildbirds yourself while keeping your account active. This page explains how to remove posts, messages, profile information, and other content, and how to contact us if you need help.
To delete your entire account and all associated data, see Delete your Wildbirds account.
Delete posts and media in the app
Android or iOS
- Chirps (posts): Open a chirp you created, open the menu (⋯), and choose Delete.
- Replies: Open the reply and delete it from the thread menu when you are the author.
- Photos and videos: Deleting a chirp removes attached media from Wildbirds.
Delete posts and media on the web
While signed in at wildbirds.io:
- Open one of your chirps and use the menu to Delete chirp.
- Delete replies you authored from the thread view.
Delete direct messages
Android, iOS, or web
- Open Messages and select a conversation.
- Delete individual messages you sent, or delete the entire conversation from the conversation options.
Deleted messages are removed from your view and our active systems. Copies in backups may persist briefly before routine purge.
Update or remove profile information
Go to Settings → Profile (web) or Edit profile in the app to:
- Change or clear your bio, website, and display name
- Replace or remove your profile photo
- Update privacy settings (for example, a private profile)
Saving an empty field or removing a photo updates what we store for your account going forward.
Leave a community
You can leave a community you joined from the community page or settings. Leaving removes your membership data for that community.
Request deletion by email or support
If you cannot delete something yourself, or you want us to remove specific data tied to your account, contact us:
- Email [email protected] from the address on your Wildbirds account
- Use our support form and describe what you want deleted (for example, a specific post, message thread, or profile field)
Include your username and enough detail for us to locate the data. We may verify your identity before processing the request.
What happens after you delete data
- Deleted chirps, replies, and media are removed from feeds and public views.
- Deleted messages are removed from the conversation for participants.
- Profile updates take effect immediately for other users.
- Residual copies in backups or logs may remain for a limited time before routine deletion.
Data we may keep
Even after you delete specific content, we may retain certain information where required or permitted, such as:
- Security, abuse, or moderation records related to the content
- Information required to comply with legal obligations
- Aggregated or de-identified data that no longer identifies you
Download a copy of your data
To export your data without deleting it, use Export my data in Settings → Profile on the web or in the app. This provides a copy of information associated with your account; it does not delete anything.
